Quote from Dru :right, so can you do this in psp (version 7) as well i guess?

Not sure, I'm running photoshop 7

Quote :Does this mean that you have a layer with preset precise locations for a name and number (ie like a text box) that you can edit but keep the format the same?

yes

Quote :Sorry to ask simple questions, but i'm not that hot on this side of things....

that's ok

Quote :also that means that you'll have to save the image as a psd otherwise the layers will be lost right - so you can have a master for each skin and just edit the name and then go save copy as which gives you the jpeg version right?

exactly!

Quote :Also final question how would the 2580x2048 to output a 1024x1024 thing work or is it a long winded process or is it best to just add the name and the number in the 1024x1024 psd version after the skin in its 2580x2048 is made??

Naah, resizing is easy and fast, if your Master Copy is an odd size (for stretching/mapping issues), add the name to that one and resize afterwards, then save as jpg.

Quote :Cheers,

Dru.

Yes, provide a generic skin for each car with a white blank space for writing in the different drivers name, and another blank space on the skin for the number. In photoshop its a 30 second job to change the name/number, save as a different jpg, move on to the next one.
10 drivers, 19 skins, 190 x 30 secs = 95 minutes £45/hr = £71. I do accept paypal.

Yep, you need to add the third option: "it makes no difference to me".
-which is not the same thing as saying "i don't have an opinion....."

google maps is better than the MS version for my area. It depends where you live.

Quote :The question is now, who do you respect more, the person who basically devotes their life to LFS or to the person who is a very fast driver but doesn't spend as much time on LFS.

this is a very different question in fact to the one in your poll.
I respect neither, I respect those who contribute to both the community and the online game in a positive way, who race fairly and who participate in a balanced way. racing competitively but at the same time within the context that the game is a leisure pursuit and should be fun. It doesn't matter if they are fast or slow.

My fuel of choice would be water from the reservoir at the end of the lane. However, having tried it in a couple of cars I've found it entirely useless as a means of powering the vehicles. Despite it's attractive cost advantage against the more conventional diesel and petrol fuels, it seems to cause severe damage to the engines. The repair bills so far have offset any of the earlier cost-advantages foreseen so really it's not been much of a saving.
I cannot recommend it to you.

well done, happy snapping! Be better if it was with free beer rather than fresh orange though.

Come on guys, don't get all anal about the maths, its not really important to get the figures exact to three decimal places, it's the idea and the principal (and the possibility) of the thing that's important in this debate.

Note down the fastest current laptime after a 10 lap race.
Then let them run 4 or 5 consecutive ten-lap races and see how much they improve.

GPL had (has) a lot of editable parameters for the ai with each driver having his own characteristics, agression, skill, etc. in a number of different situations. Added to this the cars were all different abilities, handling and reliability which all together led to some far more entertaining ai battles.
It seems with LFS that each one is identical but a little bit (1 or 2%) slower than the one in front, so if they don't make silly errors they just string themselves out in a long line and there are no real battles.
that is unless you mix up the cqar marquest a bit, but then there are seldom close enough marquest to give a good battle.
I'd like to see each ai have its own parameters, 'personality' and attributes so the faster ones had to balance out greater risk and tyre wear as well as mechanical erosion.

I don't think you are right, as far as I know there is nothing in the ai race coding that allows them to register the line you take when driving. Sadly, they just don't care about you.

Take the original dds texture file and double its size, so 512 x 512 goes to 1024 x 1024. Then on the new bigger image redo all the texture areas fom the beginning, adding your own ones. Save it back as 1024 size and you have a higher res interior.

So do the AI learn about stuff like tyre temperatures? I thought they were oblivious to it, like pitstops and tyre wear.

LFSworld stores the 1024 versions but only sends the 512 versions to your computers

[OT]What was that really wide track adapted from an airfield in the US? Cleveland, I think, was featured in an old Papy nascar sim IIRC, then a version of it appeared for GPL, or was it EA's F1? My memory fails me.
Anyway, it was an interesting track to race as it was so wide, you could get 5 abreast no problem down the straights, some good, close racing there.[/OT]

Try loading in a different setup for them, see if that alters their laptimes much.

Yep, I've played around a bit with this. Tell me, do you find any improvements based on getting them to use different setups?
